Fragrance Oils for Body Butter

Our fragrance oils are finished compositions — top, heart and base already in place — formulated by perfumer Cécile Hua, for body butter, balms and rich, oil-based skincare. A body butter is mostly fat, and fat holds scent: the oil you choose will read warmer and last longer than it does on a blotter, so these are composed to stay clear and balanced in shea, cocoa and mango butter. Every oil is available by the ounce or pound with no minimum, no lead time. Tell us what you're making, or browse.

What a body butter asks of a fragrance oil

Whipped shea or cocoa butter carries scent the way a candle carries it — slowly, and for a long time — so the best fragrance oils for body butter are the ones that stay true as they warm on skin: creamy florals, soft musks, woods, gourmands and clean fruits all sit well in a rich base. On each oil's page, brands among our customers say what they made and how it wore.

How much to use, and your ceiling

A body butter sits in the IFRA category for body lotion, and each oil's IFRA sheet states how much of it that product may carry. That figure is on the oil's page beside its flash point and its allergen statement; the table further down lists it for all 72, and our Fragrance Oil Calculator turns a rate into ounces for your batch.

Common questions

Will the scent survive whipping and a warm pour?

Yes, within the oil's flash point: add the fragrance once the butters have cooled below it and before you whip, and the oil disperses into the fat without loss. Each oil's flash point is on its page and in the table further down.

How much fragrance oil goes in a body butter?

Start from the body-lotion rate on our Fragrance Oil Calculator and stay under the oil's IFRA maximum for lotion, which the table further down lists for every oil here. A butter reads stronger than a lotion at the same rate, so test low first.

Will it discolor a white butter?

Browning in a light base usually comes from vanillin and shows over days rather than at the pour. Verified buyers' reviews on each oil's page say what they made and whether they saw a colour change; a test in your own butter settles it.

Do these oils work in a balm or a lotion bar too?

Yes. A balm or a lotion bar is the same category as a lotion on the oil's IFRA sheet, so the same ceiling applies, and the oils that hold in shea hold in beeswax and coconut oil as well.

What goes on my label?

The allergens the oil declares, above threshold at your dosage. Each oil's allergen statement lists them with their share, so your label follows from your formula; the table further down shows how many each oil declares.

Can you compose a scent that is only ours?

Yes. Private Stock composes an original fragrance to your brief, by the same perfumer, and it is yours to reorder by the pound.

Who makes these oils

Every oil here carries the name of the perfumer who composed it. Our perfumers are a small, hand-picked group who work to one standard, set by Cécile Hua. Each oil is compounded in the United States to its reference, checked batch by batch, and released with a Certificate of Analysis.

Every oil's numbers for body butter

Each figure is transcribed from the oil's own documents as served on its page on October 27, 2026: the IFRA 51st Amendment Regulatory Data Sheet (the maximum the oil may be used at in each product category, and the EU Annex III allergens it declares) and the Safety Data Sheet (flash point). An IFRA maximum is the ceiling for that category, not a usage recommendation; the typical rates brands start from are published on our Fragrance Oil Calculator. A dash means the sheets do not give that figure.

Can these oils go into other products?

Yes. The same oil scents a candle, a soap, a lotion, a perfume or a room, within the ceiling its IFRA sheet gives for that product category. The sheet lists all twelve categories; the table above carries the ones this page's brands read first.

Are they suited to a small launch and a larger one?

Both. Buy by the ounce to test and by the pound to produce, with no minimum and no lead time. Every batch is compounded to the same reference and released with its Certificate of Analysis, so what you sampled is what you scale.

Where do I find the IFRA and SDS documents?

On each oil's page, dated, and linked in the table above: the IFRA sheet, the Safety Data Sheet and the allergen statement. For a combined file or a document not shown there, use our document request page. To read further, our fragrance education pages.

What brands tell us
