Stock Fragrance Discovery Set

Every oil on a paper blotter, before you buy a drop

What it is

The best way for a brand to meet our collection before buying oil. Each set is a box of individually wrapped paper blotters, one per oil, scented with the oil itself — the same oil you would order by the ounce or pound. Two sets: the Complete Discovery Set, every currently available Stock Fragrance oil, plant-based ones included; and the Plant-Based Discovery Set, the oils that meet ISO 9235 only. Smelling samples are subject to availability and the set may vary.

How brands use it

Smell the blotters over a day or two, not in one sitting — a blotter dries down the way an oil does, and the first minute is rarely the verdict. Shortlist two or three oils for what you are making. Then order a sample ounce of each and test it in your own base: what an oil does in your wax, soap or lotion, and whether you like it there, is the only verdict that counts. Common questions

What is in the box?

Individually wrapped paper blotters, one per oil, each scented with that oil. The Complete set covers every currently available oil; the Plant-Based set covers the ISO 9235 oils only.

Are the blotters the same as the oil I would order?

Yes. Each blotter is scented with the oil itself, so what you smell is the oil, not a representation of it.

Why not order sample ounces straight away?

You can. The set is the faster way to narrow seventy-two oils to the two or three worth an ounce, and it costs less than a handful of samples.

How long do the blotters keep?

Kept wrapped and away from heat and light, a blotter stays true for weeks. Smell a blotter at the top, after a few minutes and after an hour: that is the oil opening, settling and drying down.

Does the set tell me how an oil behaves in my product?

No. Only a sample ounce tested in your own base can — performance in wax, soap or lotion is yours to judge after a proper cure. The set tells you which oils are worth that test.

Is the set the same every time?

Smelling samples are subject to availability, so a set may vary with what is in stock when it ships.
