Plant-based, natural, or essential oil

An essential oil is one plant's oil. A natural fragrance oil, with no standard behind it, can mean almost anything. A plant-based oil here is a composed scent built only from plant-derived materials — essential oils, isolates, resins and fractions — to the ISO 9235 natural-origin standard, with a structure that holds and a scent that is the same every batch.

Each oil's page carries its IFRA sheet, its Safety Data Sheet, its allergen statement and, where published, its natural-origin statement. The table further down lists every oil's ceiling for perfume, lotion, soap and candles, its flash point, its allergens and its biodegradability figure, side by side, for when you're comparing the range.

Common questions

Can I label my product natural or plant-based?

The natural-origin statement documents the fragrance. Your finished product's claim depends on your other ingredients and your market's rules; the statement is on the oil's page.

Is it the same as an essential oil?

No. An essential oil is one plant's oil and varies by crop. A plant-based fragrance oil is composed from many plant-derived materials, so it has a top, heart and base and smells the same every batch.

Do they work in candles?

Yes. Most carry the full ceiling for a candle; a few are limited, and the table further down shows each. Throw in your wax is a test pour.

Will they discolor soap or lotion?

Some materials brown a light base over days. Verified buyers on each oil's page report what they saw; a test in your own formula settles it.

How much do I use?

Who makes these oils

Every oil here carries the name of the perfumer who composed it. Our perfumers are a small, hand-picked group who work to one standard, set by Cécile Hua. Each oil is compounded in the United States to its reference, checked batch by batch, and released with a Certificate of Analysis.

Every plant-based oil's numbers

Each figure is transcribed from the oil's own documents as served on its page on October 27, 2026: the IFRA 51st Amendment Regulatory Data Sheet (the maximum for each product category and the EU Annex III allergens it declares), the Safety Data Sheet (flash point) and the Biodegradability Statement (the readily-biodegradable figure). A dash means the documents do not give that figure. An IFRA maximum is the ceiling for that category, not a usage recommendation; the typical rates brands start from are on our Fragrance Oil Calculator. Category 4 is fine fragrance, 5A body lotion, 9 rinse-off soap and body wash, 12 candles and other non-skin-contact products.

Can these oils go into other products?

Yes. The same oil scents a candle, a soap, a lotion, a perfume or a room, within the ceiling its IFRA sheet gives for that product category. The sheet lists all twelve categories; the table above carries the ones this page's brands read first.

Are they suited to a small launch and a larger one?

Both. Buy by the ounce to test and by the pound to produce, with no minimum and no lead time. Every batch is compounded to the same reference and released with its Certificate of Analysis, so what you sampled is what you scale.
